Supplemental and Special Needs Trusts are available to people who have a certified disability. When properly established and maintained, these trusts will shelter the assets held in it for purposes of Medical Assistance eligibility. Whether a trust is a supplemental needs trust or a special needs trusts depends on whose assets are placed within the trust estate.
